CHAPTER FOUR

Jesse was so relieved to have the opportunity to finally have his mate to himself again. He quickly led Andrei back to the bed and sat him on the edge while he went for a glass of water in the kitchen. He returned and gave the glass to Andrei.

“Thanks.” Andrei drank the water slowly as he watched his mate stand and wait for him to finish. Somewhere between the best sex he’d ever experienced and that meeting with the pack, his mate had become nervous and unsure and it bothered Andrei considerably.

He set the glass on the bedside table and glanced up at his mate. “What’s bothering you? I can feel your anxiety.” Andrei was afraid the gild had worn off the rose already and Jesse was having second thoughts about helping and about keeping him. He quickly dropped his eyes to his hands currently knotted in his lap and waited for the hammer to fall.

Jesse felt his mate’s distress instantly. “I worry for your safety and I wonder if maybe you would be safer at the Pack House.” Jesse sat down next to Andrei and drew him into his arms.

“I thought maybe it was all becoming a little too much for you. I can be high maintenance and a bit of pain in the ass. You wouldn’t be the first to walk away.” Andrei laid his head on Jesse’s shoulder loving the way the man’s body fit so perfectly with his own.

His cat was already in love and wanted to rub himself all over the big gorgeous fucker. Andrei didn’t know how he would function if Jesse walked away. Jesse completed him, as trite as it sounded it was the truth. He was half a man and half a shifter before Jesse came into his life. His cat was already crying at the mere thought of losing their mate.

He had to calm down before he did something crazy like bite Jesse and begin the bonding process whether he was on board or not. It was not looked kindly upon in the shifter world to usurp someone’s right to say no. Mating had to be mutual or else it was considered a crime.

“I don’t care about any of that and especially don’t care about how people in your past reacted. You are mine and I will never give you up so let’s just get beyond the insecurities right now.” Jesse was shocked that his mate would even consider that Jesse may not be in for the long haul. This was his mate and although Jesse had a reputation for being solitary and somewhat gruff and unsociable, that did not extend to his mate.

His mate would get the very best of him, he’d waited too long for this man to allow any misunderstandings or fears to get in his way. “You are my mate Andrei and I feel blessed to have you in my life.”
